Can Music Negatively Affect Your Sex Life?

se Can Music Negatively Affect Your Sex Life?

Sex music. It’s one of the most searched for categories in iTunes, the biggest online music store worldwide. Men and women know that when you’re trying to set the mood, a proper soundtrack can make or break your night, but new studies show that even when you find the perfect songs, you may still be doing yourself a disservice by playing it during sex.

Researchers at the University of Idaho are reporting that music can actually trigger premature ejaculation.

“Sexual pleasure for males is strongly controlled by sounds,” says professor Richard Osbourne. “Hearing a song that they’re previously associated with a sexual encounter, or a song that makes them particularly excited for external reasons, it can cause the individual to climax earlier than expected.”

But this isn’t to say you have to cut the music in the bedroom– The study goes on to show that scented candles, dim lighting and even the brand of condom you’re using can  have the same effect, as they’re triggering your scent, sight and feeling senses.

So what can you do to make sure your mood music isn’t too-much-of-a-good-mood music?

Make sure you don’t already associate the song with a sexual encounter

If you have a go-to sex mix, get rid of it! Your subconscious can absorb those songs and experiences even when you don’t realize it. What can this do? If you’re listening to a particularly sexy Boys II Men song, you’re likely to suddenly remember what you were doing last time it was being played, which can get you overly excited. Make sure that all the songs you’re putting on your get-down mix have never been played while getting down before!

Keep it appropriate, but don’t make it too sexy!

There’s a fine line between something that sounds like it should be background music for your every-day sex sessions and something that sounds like it should be background music for a porno. Find the balance between the two! Something that has a sexy sound is much more appropriate than something that has sexy lyrics. If you’d hear it in the club, you’re good to play it. If you’d be embarrassed listening to it in front of your  parents, you should skip the song.

No sexy voices

We all have those singers who we swoon over when listening to their music. For some women it’s Robin Thick. For some men it’s Alicia Keys. Whoever your sexy voiced singer is, you shouldn’t play their music while you’re in bed. Chances are when you’re listening to them in your everyday life, it’s in the car or while listening to your iPod. If they can turn you on in regular settings like those, they’ll put you over the edge too quickly when you’re have sex.

Music could ruin your experience, but it doesn’t have to ! If you’re going to play music while getting laid, make sure you’re picking the right songs!
