According to Bride’s Magazine, the average age of a woman getting married in the US is 27, while for a man it’s 29. And what do almost 40% of them do by age 50? Get remarried!

According to M.D. Bramlett and W.D. Mosher, authors of Cohabitation, Marriage, Divorce and Remarriage in the United States, say that 59% of people who get married before they’re 18 get divorced within 15 years and although that rate lowers to 36% for those who get married after age 20, it still hovers slightly above the 50% mark for all Americans.

What do these numbers mean? Basically that if you’re a divorcee in the online adult datingworld, you’re not alone! A majority of adults in North America are divorced, and that divorced majority makes up over half of the people using online dating sites.

Statistically, 40% of people on online dating sites are divorcees, but if you’re looking at only the users who are over 40  years of age, almost 65% of them have been divorced at least once. But it’s not just the older generation that makes up for that initial 40%! 60% of married couples between age 20 and 25 end in divorce according to the National Center for Health Statics, which means that even if you’re planning on searching for a younger demographic, you’re still likely to end up talking with a few divorcees along the way!

If you’re divorced and using dating websites, you should feel in good company! Many people who have failed marriages are embarrassed and think they will be judged on it, but once you understand that most of the people using dating sites are in the same situation as you, it makes it a much easier pill to swallow!
