When most couples break out the bubbly, they’re popping a cork and dusting off their flute glassware. But couples might want to reconsider their plans when it comes to bringing bubbles into their home lives! Dr. Katharine Johansson, a sex therapist from Colorado Springs, says that taking a bath is one of the most sexually arousing activities that couples can participate in.

“Most foreplay activities are open doors to begin intercourse,” says Dr. Johansson. “But taking a bath is different. It’s an activity that gets you not only physically close, but emotionally as well as being submerged nude next to your loved one puts you both in quite a vulnerable state. It lets couples explore each others bodies without giving them the opportunity to rush into sex. It’s essentially the most effective form of foreplay because you can touch and play, but you can’t start the main act until the bath is done.”
