About Me: I am, at top, a true gentleman; and as such, believe in all of the qualities and traits which go along with that moniker. I believe in opening and holding doors for all ladies, in seating all ladies first, in helping ladies don their coats and/or jackets, and in showing the utmost respect to all ladies for their putting up with all of the "stuff" which we men tend to heap upon them. I am also an intellectual who enjoys reading (everything from science fiction to poetry), writing (scholarly essays and poetry), watching good movies (either at the cinema or at home snuggled-up on the couch), listening to good music (from classical to classic rock), and dining out or at home (I am a fairly good cook as well). I am also a sports fan, having been a college baseball player and later a college baseball coach, but my favorite sport to watch on television is college football (I care not for professional football. . .unless I am watching the game in person). I also love to play golf (albeit, not too well but still love to play). I guess the only problem with my golf game is that, while I don't hit the ball very far, I don't hit it very straight either. The last thing about me which I feel I should share is that I am not talkative person, due in large part to my having contracted an extremely rare neuromuscular disease called Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (or PSP) which first affected my speech by robbing me of its volume and then stealing my ability to articulate clearly. Thus, the reason for my early retirement: I know of few colleges and/or universities which care to have in their employ a professor of English who can't even speak the language. :-P And while I have other symptoms which have manifested themselves in my life, my speech is the most noticeable, and therefore, the reason I tell you about it before you ever ask me to call you.
